From the Wellness Center regarding COVID testing | November 17, 2020

WPU Students,

Thank you for continuing to diligently follow the Community Health Standards and doing your part to help keep our campus community healthy. As you prepare to depart campus for the Thanksgiving holiday, we want to make you aware that WPU is offering free and voluntary pre-departure diagnostic testing for COVID-19.

COVID-19 diagnostic testing will be available at no cost to students on Wednesday, November 18 from 1:00pm to 3:00 p.m, Thursday, November 19th from 10:00AM to 3:00pm and Friday November 20th from 10:00AM to 1:00pm. The diagnostic testing will occur outside of the Joyner House (Wellness Center) and participants must sign up for a testing appointment at this link: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/508054CA8AA2CA0FF2-wpucovid19

Please review the following information prior to scheduling an appointment:

  • The test is a “rapid” test with results available in approximately 15 minutes.  Please plan to be at the testing area for about 30 minutes to complete registration which includes a consent form, test, and wait for test results and instructions.

  • The test will be conducted by a self-administered nasal swab with results read by trained medical personnel in accordance with state guidelines.

  • Once tested, you must wait onsite for the results, which will be provided to you in a secure and confidential manner.

  • If you receive a positive test result, you will be required to immediately visit an off-site testing location to take an additional test to confirm the rapid test results.  You  will be required to isolate yourself from others until you receive the off-site test result. Additionally, a positive test result will be reported to the appropriate county, state, or other governmental and regulatory entities in accordance with applicable law.

  • If the second test confirms that you are positive for COVID-19, you are required to continue isolation for at least 10 days. Due to the upcoming extended holiday season, students should return home after the second test if (a) they can do so safely without using any form of public transportation and (b) they can safely isolate at home without exposing others and following  applicable Center for Disease Control and Prevention COVID-19 isolation guidelines. If students are unable to go home, they must make arrangements with the Wellness Center for continued campus housing in isolation.

  • This test captures “a moment in time” and may yield a false negative.  Even with a false test result, you should still practice social distancing, wear your mask properly, and wash your hands frequently.

  • Contact tracing will be conducted by the Wellness Center and the county Health Department.

  • This on-site testing option is intended for individuals without symptoms* of COVID-19 in an effort to identify asymptomatic cases.  If you currently have symptoms of COVID-19, please seek testing at one of the testing sites mentioned below or with your preferred healthcare provider.  (*Symptoms of COVID-19 include fever, chills, shortness of breath, fatigue, body aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion, nausea or vomiting, diarrhea).

As an alternative to this testing, you may choose to test at an off-campus testing location.  A complete list of free testing sites can be found below.

We wish you all a great end to the semester and look forward to seeing you back on campus in January.

Stay well,

The William Peace University Wellness Center
