From the Office of the President | October 19, 2020

Dear Students:

As noted last week, North Carolina is experiencing an increased number of COVID-19 cases, and hospitalizations are up as well. Clearly, our campus will be affected by this trend. We have just received a few more positive test results among our campus community. These cases resulted from exposures that occurred off-campus; however, out of an abundance of caution, we will be suspending athletic activities through October 28 to further minimize contact between members of our student body. We will review the situation at that time to determine if any other steps are necessary.

In order to ensure the continued health and safety of our Pacer Community, it is imperative that we all remain vigilant in upholding our health standards. Let’s continue to work together to help control the spread of the virus:

  • Wear masks

  • Wait 6 feet apart and avoid close contact with others

  • Practice good hygiene by washing your hands or using hand sanitizer

  • Complete your Magnus daily symptom tracker

Residential students are encouraged to limit their activities to essential on and off campus needs including attending class, visiting campus dining, obtaining groceries or medicine and medical care, attending worship and religious practices, and employment. Additionally, residential students should continue to follow the amended guest policy and uphold the standards outlined in our Pacer Prepared Pledge. These guidelines can be found on

We appreciate your understanding and support as we make the necessary adjustments to keep our community safe.   If we determine a student has been directly exposed to COVID-19 on campus, they will be contacted by the WPU Wellness Center for further instructions.

Keep in mind that if you experience symptoms or believe you may have been exposed to the virus, you must follow the guidelines previously shared specific to students and employees.
